What this site does not keep

Who visits. The server does not record connection addresses, browsers or visit times. There are no cookies and no accounts. There is nothing to hand over even if asked.

What does remain

What you write on the square’s board is public: anyone who visits can read it, from anywhere. Once posted, it cannot be removed from your phone.

What this site cannot prevent

Your internet provider —in Cuba, ETECSA— can know that you connect to this address. It cannot see what you read or write, because the connection is encrypted, but it can see where you go. Your phone keeps a history. And if you add Cubanos Unidos to your home screen, the icon can be seen.

What is worth doing

• Connect through a VPN, Psiphon or Tor: they hide where you are connecting to.
• Do not write people’s names or addresses, or anything that identifies you. A fact works just as well without them.
• Clear your history if someone else uses or can check your phone.
• Do not add Cubanos Unidos to the home screen of a phone that others check.
• Putting up a poster is an act on the street: whoever puts it up can be seen.
